Qian (“chi’en)” He, PhD (she/her), is a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability at Rowan University. Qian’s research and teaching advocate for equitable planning, adaptation, and response to climate change and societal hazards. Trained as a planner, her recent projects examine how planning decisions, public policies, and climate change can affect the well-being of historically disadvantaged communities. One of her recent papers at Nature Communications reveals the disproportionate impact of Sea Level Rise across demographic groups among U.S. coastal communities. This year, Qian teaches a new core course Planning Methods in addition to GeoClinic and Planning Research Clinic at GPS. Qian received her Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Texas at Arlington and postdoced at the University of Maryland, College Park. Outside of work, Qian loves plants, poetry, and watercolor painting. She enjoys watching ice hockey and is a proud Dallas Stars fan. Qian and her fiancé Evan live in Central City Philadelphia with their dog Kloe and cat Big Boy.
