Planning Studio 2022 Got Published!

Mahbubur Meenar, Ph.D.

The department is thrilled to announce the publication of a new open-access, peer-reviewed journal article on food insecurity in Camden, NJ. The lead author, Christopher Tirri, along with Devon Nealer and Katrina McCarthy, all 2022 graduate Planning Studio students in the Urban and Regional Planning program, spearheaded this impactful research. The team collaborated with the undergraduate Planning Studio students (Casey Bourke, Carson Eckhardt, Madison Edwards, Joshua Masucci, and Jason Pene), three community partners (Invincible City, Heart of Camden, Shalom Baptist Church), and Dr. Meenar’s Community Planning + Visualization Lab. We commend Chris, Devon, and Katrina for their dedication, turning group insights into a compelling article, even continuing their work post-graduation through the challenging revise and resubmit process. Grounded in surveys, focus groups, interviews, and field observations, this work sheds light on food insecurity in Camden and offers potential solutions derived from meaningful community engagement. The article was published in November 2023. You can read or download the article free of charge from this website: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ssaho.2023.100703.
