Remembering George Hakun
George was a student of Rowan University (then Glassboro State), returning to complete his bachelor's and master's degrees in the mid-90s after 20 years of a full-time career in information technology and business continuity. George served as an adjunct professor and Lecturer over the period from 2007-2021, teaching several courses for the department including Cultural and World Regional Geography. As a student, he relished the opportunity to be part of a campus that was undergoing vibrant growth. He had a deep admiration for his instructors and mentors, including Professors Scott and Stansfield, who provided the encouragement to serve as an instructor when the opportunity was presented. George always described the desire to teach as being present long before he committed to a career in technology and saw the opportunity to teach at the university level as a blessing and privilege. George's personal life revolved around his family, friends, and his love of music and baseball. His family extends their deepest gratitude to the departmental leadership and staff for their support over the past several years. The ability to stay connected to teaching and the academic environment while navigating health challenges was a major source of pride, motivation, and meaning for George.
