Remembering Zachary Moore
Zachary (Zach) Andrew Moore was born in Odessa, Texas on August 17, 1979. He passed away among relatives and friends on Sunday, July 3, 2022. He is survived by his parents, Jimmy and Vickie Moore of Allen, Texas, brother, Jay Moore of Avon, Colorado, nephews Blake Moore and Cole Moore of Avon, Colorado and close friend, Terry Muse of Plano, Texas. Zachary was a member of First Baptist Church of Allen, Texas. He attended Allen High School where he played soccer and football. Zachary obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geography Education from Eastern Illinois, an MS degree in geology from Western Illinois, and a Ph.D. in geography/geographic education from Texas State University. His dissertation was entitled Evolution of Geography in the United States Public School Curriculum: An Analysis of the Influence of Societal Movements and Historical Events. He was the student scholar at National Geographic Society in Washington DC for two years, first as the geography education intern and then as the Grosvenor Scholar. His employment included a faculty position at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and a faculty position as tenured professor at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was a prolific grant writer and project manager, and he taught courses about important processes operating in the contemporary world. Zachary was a Division I soccer player in college and earned scholarships to finance his undergraduate education. He played adult soccer and enjoyed athletics in general. He travelled extensively, visiting one hundred and twenty-three countries, documenting those travels with wonderful photography. He enjoyed motorcycling, riding his BMW many miles across the United States. Wherever he went, he was deeply attuned to the physical and human environments. Zachary loved family and friends. He will be dearly missed by many.
