About Us

A Brief History

GEO Club has a long and proud history at Rowan University. The student organization was founded more than 40 years ago as the Geography Club by Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, discoverer of the largest land-dwelling dinosaur ever and Founding Dean of the School of Earth & Environment. The Geography Club was reimagined during the mid-2010s and was chartered as the newly named Rowan GEO Club (now simply GEO Club) in 2017. The Club’s mission was and remains to serve as the principal and overarching student organization of the School of Earth & Environment.

In recent years GEO Club has become known for creative on-campus events, great speakers, day hikes and fossil hunting trips, loyal alumni, as well as backpacking adventures. More than anything though, GEO Club is about friendship, camaraderie, and shared experiences.
