During the Spring 2022 semester students in Public Art & Social Practice Studio (cross-listed between Art & Geography) initiated conversations with Grounds, Facilities and Rowan Environmental Action League to collectively and creatively address the global biodiversity crisis at home, in our campus public spaces, through reducing synthetic herbicide​ use and creating more pollinator​ habitat.  

They designed a series of public space interventions for the Earth Day Open Mic event on Thursday April 21s including pollinator plant seedling giveaways, a pollinator piñata, pollinator shadow puppets, up-cycled bird fountains and interactive nightTime Sweeps  projection mapping that invites contemplation of our Earthly connectedness.

Their efforts were applauded by the Herbicide Free Campus organization, who students met with early in the semester, and featured in this SJ Climate News article:
