Background
Sara’s geology background includes teaching and field and lab work in various disciplines and settings. She brings to her classroom a background in research, law, and education, as well as her geology-inspired love of travel. Formerly a secondary science classroom teacher and NYC Teaching Fellow, she is particularly interested in scientific literacy and in issues of diversity, access, and equity in science education at all levels. She has experience in outreach to underserved and underrepresented populations, and in building connections and collaborations between research scientists and classroom educators. In addition, her experience as an attorney practicing intellectual property and media law intersects with her interest in how science informs policy and decision-making, and in breaking down communication barriers between scientific and non-scientific communities.
